The Federal Ministry of Aviation is one of the Federal Ministries of Nigeria that regulates air travel and aviation services in the country. The Ministry is responsible for formulation and management of the government’s aviation policies. It is also responsible for overseeing air transportation, airport development, maintenance, provision of aviation infrastructural services and other needs.
The Ministry is headed by a Minister appointed by the President, assisted by a Permanent Secretary, who is a career civil servant. The current Minister of Aviation is Senator Hadi Sirika.
The Federal Ministry of Aviation is charged with the responsibility for the formulation and management of Government policies and programmes on Aviation. The Ministry is directly responsible for overseeing air transportation, airport development and management, provision of Aviation infrastructural services, the provision of aviation security, improvement of airspace management and other needs for the overall development of the aviation sector in the country.
The Ministry ensures that safety and security measures in the sector are in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) requirements and recommended best practices for the enhancement of safety oversights.
