Ned Nwoko Biography
Ned Nwoko has held a variety of positions in Nigeria while establishing himself as one of the country’s wealthy men. Having been born on December 21st, 1960, as Prince Chinedu Munir Ned Nwoko into a royal family, he had the foundation for success. He was born in Aniocha North LGA, Delta State, Nigeria, into the royal Nwoko dynasty of the Idumeje Ugboko Kingdom.
Before traveling to the United Kingdom to obtain a degree in law and history at the University of Keele, Staffordshire, UK, he began his studies in Nigeria. He continued his education after receiving his first degree at King’s College in London, where he earned an LLM in Maritime and Commercial Law and was admitted to the Lincoln’s Inn English Bar. At the age of 24, he founded Ned Nwoko Solicitors in London, UK, after completing his study. His law practice is one of the largest law offices in the United Kingdom and specializes in international conflict laws, matrimonial laws, etc. Prior to opening his own firm, he worked as a Crown Prosecutor at Pascalides and Company in London and as a Legal Assistant for Kummars Solicitors in London.
He returned to Nigeria when he was 38 years old and served in President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration from 1993 to 2003 as a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives. He represented the Delta State districts of Aniocha North-South and Oshimili North-South.
Marriage
Ned Nwoko is a Muslim who is married to six women and has a large family. Laila Charania and Regina Daniels, two of Nigeria’s most popular and successful actresses, are also married to Ned Nwoko.
Politics
After arriving in Nigeria again in December 1998, Nwoko made a notable political debut when he was chosen to serve in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003. He had a strong showing in the legislative house while representing the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency.
Initiation of the London and Paris Club Loans return into Nigeria was made possible in large part by Ned Nwoko. He was the author of the reports that prompted the Nigerian government to stop monthly deductions from state allocations and start refunding the States. He researched the international creditors using his law firm, Ned Nwoko Solicitors, and his company, Linas International, and found inconsistencies in loan repayments. As a result, they refunded the first loan tranches from the Obasanjo administration.
In addition, he sued the federal government in court on behalf of 774 local governments to recover improper deductions, and the local governments won a $3.2 billion verdict. In accordance with the 2013 court ruling, the Federal Government of Nigeria has returned all the funds. The Buhari administration helped Nigeria overcome its economic downturn, which resulted in the infrastructure being developed and the backlog of public servants’ salaries being paid.
Because of his work, $20 billion has been returned to State and local governments. Nwoko is a participant in the stock market and has also participated on the Vision 2010 Committee. He presided over Vision 2010’s External Committee as its chairman.
Malaria Eradication Advocacy/Philanthrophy
Ned Nwoko is a fervent supporter of the eradication of malaria in Africa. He started the Ned Nwoko Malaria Eradication Project. In January 2020, he embarked on a symbolic expedition to Antarctica to launch the Ned Nwoko Malaria Eradication campaign. By funding anti-malaria vaccine research in collaboration with top African universities and other research institutions, the Foundation is aiding ongoing efforts to develop vaccines.
He has supported the development and education of young people in his district, state, and senatorial district through his organization, the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation. He made a donation of $273,000 (N100M) in 2019 for the renovation of the road that connects South Eastern Nigeria and Abuja, the capital of the country.
Visit to South Pole
Prince Ned Nwoko launched the mission to eradicate malaria in January 2020 by making a symbolic trip to Antarctica. As the first black African to ever travel to Antarctica’s South Pole, Ned Nwoko created history. Ned used the attention that this voyage received on a global scale to raise awareness of the issue of malaria and the best ways to end it in Africa for good. One of the two locations where the earth’s axis of rotation intersects its surface is the Geographic South Pole, where Ned and other explorers arrived. By raising the Nigerian flag there, making Nigeria the 13th nation to do so, he made history for both Nigeria and Africa and signaled to the rest of the world that Africa was prepared to address the continent’s malaria problem.
Sports University
The first sports university in sub-Saharan Africa, founded by Nwoko, is called Sports University and is situated in Idumuje Ugboko. The university which was granted an operational license in 2022 by the federal government of Nigeria, through the National Universities Commission NUC, is offering courses in sports and other disciplines and would resume full academic activities soon.
Mount Delta and Tourism
One of the 21 tourist destinations that the government of Delta State has authorized is Nwoko’s creation, Mount Delta. The attraction includes a museum, a farm, a zoo, fish ponds, chicken coops, and a 9-hole golf course.
Ned Nwoko Houses
Ned constructed one of Nigeria’s largest mansions in his hometown. Due to its size, it has a unique name: Castle in the air. The home is rumored to feature two acres of palm trees, a standard tennis court, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a livestock farm with over 5000 chickens, and its own private zoo housing horses, monkeys, ostriches, crocodiles, etc. Unquestionably a Castle!
