Introduction
The Minister of Abuja is also known as the FCT minister, a key public figure within Nigeria’s Capital city. The Minister is appointed exclusively by the president as a member of his cabinet. His core duties are focused on the management of the city. Abuja is controlled by the FCTA ( Federal Capital Territory Administration ) , and has the FCT minister as its head. Current FCT Minister
Honorable Mohammed Musa Bello was appointed in May 2015 after the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ever since then he has worked towards the peace and productivity of the capital city, with various policies .
Biography
Mohammed Musa Bello was born on the 8th of January, 1959 into a Fulani family in Yola. His father Alhaji Musa was the managing director of the Northern Nigeria Development Company within 1970 to 1976. He is from a family with generational wealth as his father was an influential person even as early as the 60s and 70s.
Hon. Musa commenced his elementary education in Yola before he graduated from Our Lady’s High School, Kaduna in1971. He then attended Barewa College, Zaria from 1971 to 1976 where he obtained his higher school certificate after which he furthered his education and graduated from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, there he obtained a Bachelor in Business Administration from 1977 to 1980 and by 1985 pursued a masters degree.
Career Service
The Minister of Abuja being a man with sound knowledge of business having studied Business Administration, he spent over 20 years in the private sector in various capacities and height and was a Director of Habib Bank PLC and other companies and also served as a General Manager in 1992 where he worked at Bakabure Industrial Complex in Yola.
More so, The FCT Minister was a member of Adamawa Chambers of Commerce, industry, Mines and agriculture and by 2006, he became fully ushered into the Nation’s political scene with his appointment as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria by the then Head of state, President Olusegun Obasanjo, an office which lasted from 2007 to 2015.
He became the Minister of FCT with the arrival of the incumbent government of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. And by 2019 his party The All Progressive Congress retained her sit for a second tenure, an advantage which saw him retain his office till date..
Personality and Notable Achievement
Hon. Mohammed Musa Bello, is one of those public figures whose certificate and knowledge has been put to proper use in areas needed especially with him being so vast in knowledge. The Minister has at a younger age occupied renowned positions and has been able to massively deliver in a large scale. Since been the minister of FCT, under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, he has made some notable changes worthy of National and Global recognition as the case may be.
In the past, Abuja has been littered with abandoned projects but as it stands many projects have been completed including, pedestrian bridges, drainages and Canals, loops and interchanges amongst others. The FCT minister also shifted focus to the satellite towns and area councils where many Infrastructural facilities as well as urban renewal projects are aggressively pursued.
The opening of expressway bridge connecting AYA, Apo roundabout, the Murtala Mohammed Way and Aso Drive making it easy for motorist to access Abuja main business districts.
According to FCTA, not less than N57.6bn has been used for developing and improving infrastructure and other necessary areas like water provision and others. The sum of N7bn has been disbursed to contractors handling the Abuja light rail project and also the completion of Abuja Kaduna railway transport which will help convey people from Abuja to Kaduna faster and quicker amongst other notable achievements he has made as the list goes on.
Conclusion
Hon. Mohammed Musa Bello, has undeniably proven to be worthy in dispersing his duties having carried out some projects to its completion. His finesse has also been of great help in taking Abuja to another level during this period.
Under his leadership, highways were built around bordering towns to ease interstate transit, some schools were renovated as part of his plans to push the educational sector to greater heights. These and many more are the achievements of the current Minister of FCT as at when this article was written.
